Sports and Space

Right before the US launched Alan Shepard, our first man into space (the Soviet Union got there first on April 12th of that year), April 29th, 1961 brought us the premiere of ABC's Wide World of Sports. The Saturday afternoon sports experience continued for another 38 years until it wrapped up on January 3, 1998.
